Investing in ClimateTech Start-Ups

This session will explore the landscape of investment into ClimateTech, considering risk profiles of ClimateTech innovations. ClimateTech offers not only a critical solution for environmental sustainability, but also a compelling investment opportunity, driven by the rapid expansion and long-term growth potential of the global Green Economy. The recent trend in funding opportunities in ClimateTech, and the recently-formed ClimateTech collaboration between University of Leeds, WYCA, Green Tech Gathering and Sustainable Ventures (LeanCAF), suggests this is a nascent area with significant growth potential.

The session will cover topics such as: How to survive the ‘valley of death’ to reach first customers? How to match capability and supply? How to enable testing? What are the specific barriers facing ClimateTech start-ups(/scale-ups) when seeking VC investment and development finance, and how to overcome them? What are some examples of successful ClimateTech investments in West Yorkshire? Can the public sector de-risk investment?

Invitees to include: Fintech North, Bank of England, FCA, West Yorkshire Pension Fund & National Wealt
